From toothpaste to pots and pan
s; such are the needs of a Somali family who has been living in a refugee camp in Ethiopi
a for 9 long years. On September 29, Lutheran Social Service representative Margaret Yapp traveled to Faith Lutheran to load up all the supplies that were collected from Faith members and purchased with the Mission Grant monies. Backpacks with school supplies, kitchen supplies including a rice cooker, stew pot, cookware set, teapot and kitchen towels; household cleaning supplies including a vacuum, waste baskets, broom, laundry basket and detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, and general cleaning supplies; toiletry kits for each person including toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, razors, and combs.
We made a gift basket for the family welcoming them to the USA and to Minnesota. It included Faith t-shirts, Faith mugs, small flashlights, the Faith directory (so they know who we are), and, of course, a Minnesota Vikings cap for the teenage son.
