Trial and Error: Looking Back at the start of COVID

Posted by Dennis Sanders on

This week marks two years since "the world shut down" because of COVID-19.  We are using this occasion to offer their reflections.  Below is an interview with organist Alan Ball.

What went through your mind when COVID ended up scuttling in-person worship?  What were you thinking would happen to worship and to music?

It felt very strange to lead music for people who aren't in the same space; at first, I wasn't sure what to think or what would happen to worship and music.

How did you learn to adapt to the changing environment?

A lot of trial and error! My family can attest to how many evenings I spent trying to figure out my recording at home process for getting choir accompaniments done.

How did music get you through this new period of social distancing?

As things kept changing, especially in late 2020 during the first surge, the ability to collaborate with other musicians in new ways with technology really helped.
