Don't Be A Petri Dish!
Lonnie Bunch, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, spoke during a segment on CBS Sunday Morning this past week and discussed opening museums in this time of COVID.
“What you don’t want to be… you don’t want to be a petri dish. You don’t want to be a place where people can get sick. What you want is to be a place where people get well, emotionally and spiritually. I’m much more comfortable saying, even as we open, if the virus gets worse, or the numbers spike, we’ll close. We have to be that nimble in order to protect the public.”
His words ring true for our sentiments at Faith. We don’t want to be a “petri dish”, and we do want to help people get “well”, both emotionally and spiritually.
With this in mind, we are discussing making both 9:00 and 10:30 services available for in-person worship in October, knowing that we will be “nimble” if needed and become more restrictive if numbers change. We will confirm a plan for October by some point next week. For this final week in September, in-person worship is slated for 10:30 on Sunday, September 27.
Please know that things will still not be back to pre-pandemic events if we make more services available.
Masks, distancing, and the other in-person protocols will be in place, and there will be a limit to the number of people that can attend each service. There will still be contactless communion on designated Sundays, but no fellowship hour or in-person Sunday Church School will be available. All online, streaming, radio options for services and SCS will remain fully functioning.
